Acupuncture is the oldest (2,000 years) medicine that has been continuously practiced in the world.

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine solid needles into specific points on the body to correct imbalances of the Qi (or energy) of the body and to stimulate the body’s natural healing ability.

The Difference Between Acupuncture and Dry Needling:

Dry needling focuses on releasing trigger points in muscles to relieve pain and improve mobility. While effective for isolated issues, practitioners often have only 8–20 hours of training.

Acupuncture, on the other hand, is part of a comprehensive medical system rooted in over 2,000 years of Chinese Medicine, the longest recognised medicine in the world. Acupuncturists complete a rigorous four-year degree, covering anatomy, physiology, pathology, and traditional Chinese Medicine principles. This extensive training ensures a deep understanding of the body and allows for tailored treatments that address the root causes of imbalances, not just the symptoms.

The depth and breadth of an Acupuncturist’s expertise provide unmatched value, offering a holistic approach that supports your body’s natural ability to heal and promotes overall wellness.

Sometimes a small bruise can be left at the site of the needle.

The most prominent side effect of acupuncture is a feeling of calm and relaxatio.n 😀

During your first acupuncture visit, a very comprehensive medical history will be taken.  We will then discuss your treatment and a treatment plan.  This is also your opportunity to ask any relevant questions you may have.

You will then be placed and the table and  your pins will be inserted into carefully selected points depending on your diagnosis.

You then get to relax on the table (have a nap if you like) whilst the needles do their work (approx 25 minutes).

This is dependent on a number of factors including length and severity of condition, type of condition being treated, how well your body responds to the treatment  and your age.

We will endeavour to try and give you an approximation based on what we normally encounter in the clinic.

We will review your progress weekly.

Marks, called sha, which is stagnant blood, is pulled to the surface of the body to be released.  These marks are NOT bruises and therefore are not painful.  They will disappear in 3 – 5 days.

Generally, you may go about your normal business.  If you have the opportunity to rest and relax, that is perfect, but not necessary.
