All Things Pregnancy
Fertility & IVF Support
Women’s health is perhaps one of the most complicated areas of medicine both from a Western and Eastern perspective.
But not all women sail through pregnancy with that “glow” that everyone talks about.
Many women suffer from morning sickness, with symptoms ranging from mild nausea through to vomiting up to 10 times per day (known as hyperemesis). Morning sickness usually lasts only until around 16 weeks, but can continue throughout the whole pregnancy.
On top of this, as the pregnancy progresses, women can suffer from a range of issues such as neck and back pain as their body becomes larger with the growth of their new bub. Women also often feel fatigued and suffer from lack of sleep. This can also lower their immune system, making them more susceptible to colds and flu.
Although these are all normal parts of being pregnant, it doesn’t make it any easier to live with these symptoms, especially with women now staying in the workplace longer and/or with other children to look after.
Self care is important during pregnancy and Caloundra Acupuncture can provide natural, drug free care during this time. Women often ask is acupuncture safe during pregnancy? When acupuncture is provided by an experienced qualified, registered acupuncturist, such as Catherine Varley, acupuncture can assist you to manage those uncomfortable signs and symptoms.
Acupuncture does not replace your primary care with your doctor or midwife but can happily work alongside your primary care team, to assist you during this special time in your life.
Postpartum Care
Care of the mother after birth is a forgotten practice, as we see women only staying in hospital a few hours after birth, with not always having the support they need when going home.
And women themselves do not know or recognise what their body needs to recover from pregnancy and birth.
In todays busy world, conditions such as postpartum depression is on the rise and women more and more report they are exhausted, keep getting colds and flu’s (depressed immune system), are finding it hard to loose weight and suffer from lower and/or upper back pain.
In Chinese Medicine, the first 6 weeks after birth is often referred to as the Golden Month. Traditionally this was a time when a woman was cared for and celebrated by the family and community for the gift of the child to the family. The Mother generally had a time of “lying in” where she was fed the best food, given practical assistance and had time to bond with her child. This was also the time when her own body had time to recover after the rigors of pregnancy and childbirth.
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine has a lot to offer women recover from childbirth, get back on their feet and enjoy the love of mothering.
Here at Caloundra Acupuncture, Catherine would be honored to work with you to get back on your feet and get on with the job of looking after baby with renewed vitality and joy.
